Disunited
The everyday man
Man does not care whether he exists within himself or if he is part of a whole. What is he doing here ? What is his place ? He has much better things to do than wasting his time to respond to such nonsense. In the same way don't bother him with the drifts and the pangs of the world. The more you keep repeating this catalog, the less he feels concerned. In fact his essential concern, his grail, his challenge of every moment, consists in managing his daily life and it is true that this is not always a sinecure. What a pity ! Nevertheless, deep inside him, does man not aspire to gain some consistency ? What kind of affinities can we suggest to him ?
With past generations. Certainly not ! Look how stupid they were ! Really underdeveloped people who lived without even the last gadget. We know lots of things they completely ignored. No, it was definitely another world with other people. I feel no kinship with them. To conclude, I would say that I'm very happy not to have shared their time.
With the inhabitants of other countries. First of all, other countries are far and I doubt to go there one day. Ok people who live there are human too but they are also foreigners. It's fine that they lived with their own customs and culture, but do not make to be interested in. Why not seek consistency between all man while we're at it ?
With the animal world. There I do not say no because the man is also an animal. However, the theory of evolution makes us a species apart. You can't find more sociable and organized species or higher king on the planet !
With the planet. A planet is a planet and there are very many in the cosmos. Our genius is to know how to exploit ours. We take it, we shake it, we turn it over, all that to make the best of it. For sure man demonstrates exceptional qualities. What an inexhaustible source of resources !
With life. You mean with all that lives by here ? There, I'm a bit lost. It is too hard to picture the totality of living things. However, there are life forms that don't seem so useful. But as regard the human, we can say in a way that he gives to the animal kingdom and thus to the Earth his Letters of Nobility.
With harmony. The harmony ? Je vois un peu l'idée, mais ce n'est pas cela qui donne sa consistance au quotidien. This is even less concrete. What is it exactly ? A feeling, a utopia, a wishful thinking ? I can sense the idea but that doesn't give consistency to our daily life.
With stupidity. Bingo ?
Separated from the world, alien to the world
How to justify that we live thereby walled in our shells ?We come to life projected in a too wide world. Too big, too many, too diverse ... we do not understand anything. Disoriented, we do not take long to curl up into a single idea : "In the middle of this whole, the thing that has maybe the most sense and reality, it's me." Everything else exists also, but since it's foreign to me, it's less important. As I do not control it, it can be poured into the field of circumstances.
Here is a departure in life very cautious but quite acceptable.
Then it goes bad. If you stay riveted to this good start, you refuse the insights of time and its contribution to novelty. As soon as you decide everything goes for the best, time becomes useless for you. Then you live as the zealous prisoner who adds bars at his window for fear of leaving the comfort of his cell. Time is reduced to the clatter of the clock that seals your days.
Let's call humans the first hominids conscious of being alive in the midst of a whole. We were then directly in touch with nature. Since then, the relation has been sanitized. Nowadays man swears only by his organization, to which he is willing to sacrifice everything. If man has gained skills and knowledges, erudition has also nursed his smugness.
What hope can offer a modernity whose principle is the hymn to junk ? Are we not grasping the world with a ragged net ? There is a question that covers all latitudes, crosses the eras and encompasses everything that has ever been given to us to see or perceive :
"This so immeasurable and exuberant world, wouldn't it conceal some coherence ?"
Let us rejoice. Our constant non-response to this question over the centuries, certifies that man is not irremediably resistant to any form of cohesion.
